Attracting the Presence of God

2 Timothy 3 ESV

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

BIG QUESTIONS TODAY:

Is there anything we can do to make him not want to come to the house?

Is there anything we can do that would make him want to be in the house?

Presence over program.

Presence over preference.

Presence over people.

A. Nero tried to take power

B Vespasian, learned to receive power through appeasement.

2 The history of the presence of God

1 Kings 8 KJV

1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which isZion.

2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.

4 And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up.

5 And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude.

6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

7 For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,

11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

A. It was an intentional effort.

1 Kings 5 ESV

5 And so I intend to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord said to David my father, ‘Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, shall build the house for my name.’

B. There was great reverence and honor

1 Kings 6 ESV

7 When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.

Honor: High respect and great esteem.

Reverence: Regard or treat with deep respect.

C. There was holiness.

1 Kings 6 ESV

11 Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon,12 “Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.”

History teaches us 3 things…….

There was intentionality

There was reverence

There was holiness.

QUESTIONS:

Is there anything we can do to make him not want to come to the house?

Is there anything we can do that would make him want to be in the house?

Does “MY Posture” communicate that He is wanted here?

Does “MY ATTITUDE” communicate that He is wanted here?

Does“MY CONCERN FOR OTHERS” communicate that we honor His Holy Word?

Does “MY PRAISE” communicate that He is wanted here?

Does “MY HEART” attract his presence?
