Ephesians 1:3–10 – “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world…”
I. The Origin of the Redemptive Plan — Conceived in the Heart of God (Ephesians 1:3–4)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love”.
God’s purpose has always been to bring humanity into fellowship with Himself.
Even before sin entered, God had foreseen the cross. The Lamb was “slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8).
Just like an architect who designs every detail before laying the foundation, God laid the foundations of the earth, He designed the plan of salvation — Jesus was the center of that plan.
II. The Execution of the Plan — (John 3:16–17)
“For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him”
The plan of redemption was executed through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Three Greek Words That Explain Redemption
1. Agorazō) — To Buy in the Marketplace
Root meaning: "to buy" or "to purchase" — from agora, the marketplace.
2. Exagorazō — To Buy Out of the Marketplace
Prefix “ex” = “out of.”This means to buy and take out, never to return again.
Lytroō) — To Set Free by Paying a Ransom
Root meaning: “to release on receipt of ransom.”
The cross is not only the center of our faith but the message we carry to the nations.
· Missions without the message of the CROSS is just humanitarian aid — not transformation.
The plan of redemption didn’t end with Christ’s resurrection — it continues through the Church, His body. Matthew 28:19–20
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Every believer is a messenger of redemption — at work, in the neighborhood, and across the world.
Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
III. The Completion of the Plan — Celebrated in Eternity
The redemptive plan will reach its glorious climax when every tribe and tongue worships the Lamb.
The story that began in Genesis will end in Revelation — with people redeemed by the blood of the Lamb from every nation.
(Revelation 5:9 NKJV)
“And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,And to open its seals; For You were slain,And have redeemed us to God by Your bloodOut of every tribe and tongue and people and nation”
Conclusion: The Redemptive work was -
Planned in eternity
Accomplished at the cross
Proclaimed through the church
Perfected in eternity
