Pushing Back the Darkness Week 5

Notes Here: ⬇️

Acts 1 ESV

3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

You shall receive power when……..

“John baptized with water but I will baptize you with The Holy Spirit”

Bopto VS Bapti-zo

You shall receive power after The Holy Spirit comes upon you.

Do we have the presence and power of God living in us?

And are we in a habit of giving it away?

Acts 2 ESV

1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18 even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

Is it for me?

Is this for me?

He will be in you

He will teach you

He will lead you

He will empower you

Acts 19 ESV

1 Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. 2 And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” 4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in[b] the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.

Hindrances to receiving:

1 Cor 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

Hinderances to the current activity of The Holy Spirit.

How to receive The Holy Spirit.

Luke 24 ESV

49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.

It is a gift that must be received.

Acts 4:7-8

By what power or by what name did you do this? Then, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them….

Acts 4:10

By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

Acts 4

12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven, given among men by which we must be saved. 13 When they saw the boldness  of Peter and John, and perceived they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 4 ESV

29 And now Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Acts 4:31

31 The place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the words of God with boldness.

We need the boldness of the Holy Spirit.

We need the equipping of the Holy Spirit.

We need the empowering of the Holy Spirit!
