My Next Yes

Notes Here: ⬇️

I. Listening Ears

A. Know God’s Voice -

John 10:27

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

B. Pray and Fast –

Acts 13:2

2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

C. Be Expecting him to speak –

I Kings 19

9 There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”

D. Do not be preoccupied by the voice of the world.

II. Cultivated Heart

A. The focus needs to be on His will not your own.

Luke 22

42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

B. Be willing to lay things down.

Luke 9

23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

- Cultivating a heart that says the next yes is made from countless daily decisions of dying to yourself and taking the high Christ-like Road.

C. The decision you make today affects the WHO you are tomorrow.

“Focus on the right WHO and you will come to the right DO” - Criag Groeschel

- You cannot wait for a tomorrow, a position title, or recognition to begin.

- Making a big yes is easier if you have compiled a bunch of small yes’s

D. The motives of your heart mater –

Proverbs 16:2 NLT

People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives.

III. Wisdom Seeker –

A. Ask God for Wisdom

James 1

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

B. Safety in a multitude of counselors

Proverbs 11:14

Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

C. Who you hang with matters.

Proverbs 13:20

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.

IV. Take a step of Faith.

A. Don’t trust your own heart independent of God.

Proverbs 14:12

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

B. Trust in God and relax in Him –

John 6

28 They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”

29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”

V. Purposeful waiting

A. Be Faithful with where you are at

Luke 16:10-12

10 “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. 11 If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

B. Do everything where you are at currently unto the Lord and with thanks.

Col 3:17

17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
