Lessons From a Shepherd PT 4

Psalms 23 ESV

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The only way He can restore my soul is if I’m following where He’s leading.

Following is the evidence of a true believer.

He leads us in paths of righteousness.

Verse 3 NIV

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Verse 3 NLT

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Verse 3 TLB

He helps me do what honors him the most.

HE LEADS ME IN PATHS THAT ARE GOD HONORING AND

GOD ORDAINED.

1. Are we following the shepherd?

John 10 ESV

1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

My sheep know my voice.

Following is the evidence of a true believer.

2. Are we listening to the wrong voice?

John 10 ESV

4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.

Sheep vs Goats

Are we Stiff-necked?

Have we learned to recognize Satan's traps?

3. Are we walking in the fullness that The Shepherd has for us.

His name is at stake!

Our faith activates God's promises on the earth!

Our obedience to the Word forms a hedge of protection.
